About me
My name is Lea Mouton. I am assistant to Nicolas Magain in the Evolution and Conservation Biology Unit at the University of Liège, which is part of the InBioS Research Center and the Department of Biology, Ecology and Evolution (BEE). I am also doing a PhD with Alain Vanderpoorten about the distribution of epiphytic bryophytes used to assess past and present environmental changes and thus predict future distributions according to environment evolution, in the context of climate change and anthropization of the landscape.
My work
After presenting my master's thesis on the horizontal and vertical variation of Beta diversity in epiphytic pteridophyte communities in a subtropical forest of China, I was interested to continue working on Beta diversity and epiphytes for a PhD. I first focused my work on the drivers and variations of Beta diversity with spatial scale among land plant taxa in Macaronesia. Currently, I am working on the distribution of epiphytic bryophytes in Wallonia. Using past and present records of their distribution together with past and present air pollution, pesticides and climatic data, we are looking which environmental change has the most impact on bryophytes distribution. In a context of anthropization of the landscape, the next step will be to correlate species distribution with forest management types and future climate scenarios in order to identify species associated with old-growth and highly natural forests in order to identify a suitable forest management. To do so, we use Beta diversity, Variation partitioning and SDM (species distribution modelling). As part of my thesis, I am involved in the EPIFOR project.
